While I'm not a big a Lovecraft fan as many of my contemporaries and friends, the "style" of Lovecraft's horror - the idea of things just beyond our world that are so beyond our comprehension we can't even grasp their existence - appeals to me. I have written a number of "Lovecraftian" stories over the years, several of them appear in this volume - The Fall of the House of Escher is one, The Call of Farther Shores is another. When Dark Regions publisher Joe Morey told me he wanted this to be "the definitive David Niall Wilson collection," I wasn't sure what to do. How do you choose? I've written and published over a hundred and fifty short stories over a couple of decades of writing. I have tried very hard over those years not to stereotype myself as that vampire guy, or that sex-in-horror guy, but instead to remain diverse and to keep things as fresh and new as possible.
