When Dark Regions publisher Joe Morey told me he wanted this to be “the definitive David Niall Wilson collection,” I wasn’t sure what to do. How do you choose? I’ve written and published over a hundred and fifty short stories over a couple of decades of writing. I have tried very hard over those years not to stereotype myself as that vampire guy, or that sex-in-horror guy, but instead to remain diverse and to keep things as fresh and new as possible. That has led to the compilation of a list of stories that almost defies logical organization.

So what I did was simple. I tried to choose stories that have meaning to me. I looked for work that defined some moment in my career and pulled them from the pile to be dusted off and included. I tried NOT to include too much that appeared in my last collection – it only came out last year, after all. To make it interesting, I added in a few original tales.

The intention of this website is to provide a comprehensive overview of the collection, to provide readers and collectors all the possible information they might want before buying and reading the book, and a forum for discussion of the work should anyone care to take part.  In the books introduction, from which this, and many following posts, are partially derived, I gave a short history of each story included in the book, why it was chosen over other stories - who published it - etc.  I will do that here on the site, as well as providing short exerpts from some of the work when it seems appropriate, some information on finding the original publications where they appeared, and anything else that seems pertinent.
